WILL ‘FAT TAX’ ON UNHEALTHY FOODS HELP?

Fat Tax 1

Unhealthy diet is one of the main reason for obesity. Junk foods are refined, high in calories, very tasty and are highly addictive. Will people, addicted to these unhealthy foods, stop eating them just because tax is imposed on these foods? Will an addicted person stop drinking and smoking, if tax is imposed on alcohol and cigarettes? Past experience in Denmark suggests that ‘sugar tax’ is not helpful. If tax is going to help what should be the percentage of tax? What should government do with that money? Will government spend that money to increase awareness on importance of healthy diet and exercise? Ban, Tax or Awareness – Which will help?

A MODIFICATION OF DUODENAL SWITCH, IS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE METABOLIC SURGERY TO TREAT TYPE 2 DIABETES

SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY WITH DUODENO-ILEAL INTERPOSITION:DS vs DII

Metabolic surgery results in resolution or long term remission of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), due to several hormonal changes such as reduced Ghrelin, increased GLP1 and Peptide YY. Bilio-pancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD-DS) is the most effective metabolic surgery since hormonal changes are maximum. But significant malabsorption can be a problem. Sleeve gastrectomy with duodeno-ileal interposition (SG-DII), a modification of BPD-DS, is equally effective but with significantly less malabsorption. Addition of one extra anastomosis (Ileo-jejunal anastomosis) to BPD-DS, greatly reduces malabsorption without affecting hormonal changes necessary for T2D resolution or weight loss. This makes SG-DII one of the most effective metabolic surgery to treat T2D even in normal weight patients with uncontrolled T2D. SG-DII = BPD-DS + Ileo-jejunal Anastomosis.
